Special Educational Needs

At St Uny C of E Academy all children are valued, respected and welcomed to our school whatever their additional educational need. We will support their learning and ensure they are fully included in all school activities, making full use of externally provided facilities where appropriate.

Special Educational Needs

Children with additional needs are identified through a combination of observations of the children as individuals within their classes by our experienced staff, tracking the outcomes of assessments and through discussions with parents.  At St Uny C of E Academy we are very lucky to have an experienced SENDco, Mrs Brand. She works with the class teachers and teaching assistants to create programmes of support that meet the needs of the child. If you wish to discuss your child's learning programme, please do not hesitate to contact your child's class teacher in the first instance and then should you require further information please contact Mrs Brand.

We work with a range of external agencies to provide the best support for all our children. There are too many to list, but they include:

  • Speech and Language Therapy
  • Dyslexia Support Service
  • Hearing Support Service
  • Social Communication Difficulties Team
  • Medical Professionals

Gifted and Talented

We also aim to ensure that children who display exceptional gifts and talents are provided for. Every year, the children with exceptional gifts and talents are identified by members of staff as well as their families. We particularly ask for parental  information about talents that may not have been picked up within school, such as sporting talent, artistic talent, cooking or other abilities. It is these skills that make our pupils individuals and we want to ensure that they have the opportunity to shine and also to further develop their skills. This process enables the school to ensure that provision is in place to challenge and enrich the learning of this group of children.

The school works to offer a variety of enrichment opportunities both inside and outside of the classroom, and aims to harness and develop the gifts and talents that our children display. Our Gifted and Talented Co-ordinator is Mrs Brand.

Should you wish to contact Mrs Brand about any area of SEND provision our school, please contact the school office.
The 2018-2019 SEND Information Report will be revised following a review of the SEND provision at St Uny this term and a new SEND Information Report will be published in January 2019. This will include updated information about identifying, assessing and making provision for pupils with SEN and for the admission of disabled pupils.
