It is our intent that History and Geography excites, engages and challenges pupils. We aim to equip learners with the knowledge and skills to answer challenging questions, explore the natural world and understand key historical events so that they can identify how actions and civilizations have shaped the world we live in today. We want History and Geography to inspire pupils to learn about the ever-changing world around them and develop skills for lifelong learning.

As a result of this, in History they will:

  •          Increase and develop their historical skills, concepts, knowledge and attitudes.
  •          Increase their understanding of the present in the context of the past.
  •          Develop and use their skills in enquiry, analysis, evaluation, and argument.
  •          Develop their interest in the past, arousing their curiosity and motivation to learn.
  •          Develop a sense of identity through learning about the past.

In Geography they will:

  •          Gain curiosity and fascination about the world and its people.
  •          Develop knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human      environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes.
  •          Develop the Geographical skills required to collect, analyse and communicate with a range of data.
  •          Interpret a range of sources of geographical information, including maps, diagrams, globes, aerial photographs.
  •          Communicate geographical information in a variety of ways, including through maps, numerical and quantitative skills and writing at length.
