Welcome to the St Uny Church of England Academy website, I really do hope you will find it useful. We have tried to think of everything you might want to know and included enough information to help you feel you understand us a little better.
We are situated in Carbis Bay, a very beautiful, seaside location just on the outskirts of St Ives in west Cornwall. It is my great pleasure and privilege to be the Executive Principal of such a very happy and caring school. Our children are well-behaved, they work hard, try their best and thoroughly enjoy their learning – they are, quite simply a pleasure to teach! Our staff are committed to making learning exciting and interesting by selecting inspiring study themes, linking real experience and visits to the study theme each term.
Our curriculum helps children understand more about their local area whilst being outward facing, fully preparing them for life in modern Britain. Because of this our children leave us well prepared to embrace their next step in education. We take great pride in nurturing them as they develop into truly remarkable citizens of tomorrow. We teach the British values of equality, diversity, democracy and respect for all throughout our whole curriculum, alongside the Christian values of friendship, compassion, creativity, peace and hope. In addition to the organised visits and visitors linked to learning there are also many opportunities to develop personal interests through the many residential experiences, sports and after school clubs which range from surfing to chess. Through residential and enrichment opportunities, we immerse children in multi-cultural experience. All children learn about many other countries and cultures every year. They learn about and appreciate the interdependence of all countries in the world.
Our outdoor learning space is quite exceptional and every child within our school knows about the environment and how we can take care of it. They work in the gardens, pond and poly-tunnel from Reception class with their teachers and with Mr Frost our outdoor learning leader. Through that closeness to the natural world, they come to appreciate the wonder of creation. There is a very real sense of community within our school – we are a family.
We are part of a larger Christian community and, throughout the curriculum and our charitable work, we teach humility and thankfulness. We are also part of the Aspire Academy Trust. Through this strong community partnership, and by working alongside our strong Church school partners within our diocese, our staff and children access a wide range of enrichment and exciting opportunities that they thoroughly enjoy.
All that we do at St Uny is underpinned by our Christian foundation. We are a Church of England (VA) Academy and, as such we believe each child is special, unique and loved by God. Through the quality of the relationships our children develop whilst at St Uny the nurture, care, guidance, support and encouragement they are given they leave us being confident individuals. Here at St Uny we provide the very best, holistic education for each individual child, within a stimulating, happy and caring environment, inspired by Christian faith and practice. The bible verse "Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your father in heaven", Matthew ch5 v16, epitomises our holistic approach to education, where we help every pupil to find, develop and show their varied skills and talents, for the benefit of themselves and others.
I am very proud of all the achievements of our children, but I truly believe we have to do more than educate. We have an obligation to give all the children in our care the very best care, education and childhood we can! If you wish to find out more about our wonderful school, please have a look at this web-site, our Facebook page or contact the office to arrange a visit.
