FEAST DAY      5th February 2024

SATS WEEK    13th - 16th May 2024

LONDON RESIDENTIAL  24th  - 26th June 2024

Hello lovely children in Zennor!

Welcome to the Spring Term everyone!

We have two topics running side by side this term. Our history is going to be based on Crime and Punishment through the ages, starting with the Romans and working up to the present day. This will involve a trip to Bodmin Jail, and the opportunity to have class debates on the prison system and sanctions used in different eras and countries.

Our science and RE will be linked, as we look at evolution and inheritance , the life of Darwin, and the creation story as told in Genesis in the Christian Bible. Can both viewpoints coexist?

Our writing will include a non-chronological report on the life of Darwin, balanced arguments on how the World began and  whether prison is an effective punishment for people who commit crimes.

In maths we will continue our journey towards the SATs in May recapping and reviewing KS2 knowledge and skills. We are starting with percentages, and will be completing a weekly arithmetic test to track our progress.

In PE we will be dancing, using others to help us improve our performances and working in teams. Even though we don't have Mrs Stevens for art this term, we will be investigating the life, works and skills of Barbara Hepworth in class.

Miss Stockle and I look forward to a term of fun and learning, and we both hope you have had a restful two weeks enjoying time with your families.

READING AT HOME IS SO IMPORTANT - PLEASE BUILD IT INTO YOUR ROUTINE

Stuck for what to read? Try some of these recommended reads for Y6. Remember that our local library is a great place to try out books before you buy - and they will order books in for you to try too.

If you would like more information about why reading at home is so important please follow the link below or read the attached DFE study.

Please see the document below that gives you ideas of how to help your child when they read with you at home - it contains useful sentence stems that will help you when you ask questions.

Homework -
At St Uny Church of England Academy, we believe homework is anything children do outside of the normal school day that contributes to their learning, in response to guidance from the school. Homework encompasses a whole variety of activities instigated by teachers and parents/carers to support the children's learning. There is a link to our Chilli Challenge homework grid on this class page.
